June 2017 is the 50th anniversary of the Rio Arriba County Courthouse raid that forced New Mexico to confront its legacy of land grant injustices. Robert Torrez, former New Mexico State Historian, native of Rio Arriba, and expert on the history of the raid will lead an exploration of this complex and contentious history. We will travel by bus to tour the original courthouse in Tierra Amarilla and visit with area residents about the raid’s aftermath. After lunch we’ll pay a special visit the Tierra Wools hand-dyeing and hand-weaving shop.
