The oldest newspaper in the West, the New Mexican began as a weekly publication and became a daily paper in 1867. In 1880, it was owned by the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway. Originally published half in English and half in Spanish, in that same year the newspaper began to publish an all-English version, and a Spanish-language version called El Nuevo Mejicano. Currently owned by Robin Martin, The Santa Fe New Mexican has been in the same family since 1948.
