Nancy Owen Lewis presents “They Came to Heal, They Stayed to Paint: The Birth of the Santa Fe Art Colony”.
From 1870 to 1940 thousands of “health seekers” journeyed to New Mexico seeking a cure for tuberculosis (TB), the leading killer in the United States at the time. Among New Mexico’s prominent lungers were artists Will Shuster and Carlos Vierra, who “came to heal and stayed to paint.”
This is Part Three of a three-part lecture series co-presented with El Rancho de las Golondrinas in St. Francis Auditorium.
