From Alfred Stieglitz to Cady Wells: The Rebecca Salsbury James Collection by Karli Wurzelbacher

Join us for a talk uncovering the connections between the artwork that Rebecca Salsbury James (1891-1968) lived with and the paintings and embroideries that she created.  James collected paintings and photographs by friends including Marsden Hartley, Georgia O’Keeffe, Alfred Stieglitz, Paul Strand, and Cady Wells.  In 1968, she donated her collection of modern art to the New Mexico Museum of Art.  In addition to exploring shared approaches to subject matter and form, the talk will illuminate the personal relationships that shaped James’s collection.
