El Camino Real Historic Trail Site will host Traditional Weaving demonstrations by Pueblo textile artist Louie Garcia June 25-29, 2014.
Garcia, Tiwa/Piro from the Piro Manso Tiwa tribe of Guadalupe Pueblo in Las Cruces, will demonstrate traditional weaving techniques using yucca and cotton from 10am–4pm Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday.
On Saturday, he will teach a plaited yucca mat workshop. The free workshop begins at 10am and spaces are limited. Registering in advance is required.
This artist in residence program is made available through the generous support of the Museum of New Mexico Foundation.
El Camino Real Historic Trail Site, formerly El Camino International Heritage Center, is located between Socorro and Truth or Consequences off Interstate -25 at Exit 115. It is open Wednesday-Sunday from 8:30 a. m -5:00 p. m. For more information call: 575-854-3600
