The Office of Archaeological Studies, in collaboration with the Santa Fe Chapter of the Archaeological Institute of America and other organizations in northern New Mexico, will host an open house at the Center for New Mexico Archaeology on Saturday, October 15, 2016 from 10 am to 4 pm. Visitors will have the opportunity to tour the building, which is the primary storage facility for New Mexico’s archaeological collections, as well as the offices and working research laboratories of the Office of Archaeological Studies. Visitors of all ages can learn about New Mexico’s unique 12,000-year cultural heritage through a wide range of hands-on activities, demonstrations, and interactions with archaeologists. Come throw atlatls, shoot bows, make yucca fiber, watch pottery firings, learn about coiled basketry, and query archaeologists with all those questions you have always wanted to ask about New Mexico archaeology.
