Pueblo Pottery and Embroidery Demonstration with Michael Bancroft (Ohkay Owingeh) and Shawn Tafoya (Santa Clara)

date_range November 13, 2019
location_on 708-710 Camino Lejo
Santa Fe, NM 87557 United States
schedule 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Michael Bancroft is a micaceous pottery instructor who discovered his love of clay in 2004. He feels his inspiration comes from his children’s grandmother, Mary Sedillo, and his grandmother, Emily Povijua, both of whom made pottery. He has taken and  instructed many art classes at the Poeh Cultural Center.

While also a skilled potter, Shawn Tafoya will demonstrate embroidery, another of his passions. Although a traditionalist in terms of materials and technique, his embroidery is strikingly innovative. Ideas for his work come from different sources, including nature, his Pueblo and other tribal groups, pop culture and his family’s art.
