Description:

In April 1881, Billy the Kid sat in the Lincoln County Courthouse, scheduled to hang for murder. Shackled in irons like these, he managed to kill two deputies and escape. On display in the History Museum’s main exhibit, Telling New Mexico: Stories from Then and Now.
