Title: Navajo silver

Description:

As early as the 1880s, Navajo silversmiths produced hand-stamped souvenir spoons, brooches, and other  goods that occasionally featured a Thunderbird figure. After 1910, the birds acquired squared shoulders, stepped wings, and a left-facing head, an image that the Harvey Company copyrighted.
These items are from the New Mexico History Museum Collection, Skip Gentry’s Fred Harvey Memorabilia Collection, and Drs. Kathleen L. and William G. Howard.
