Title: Harold West Christmas card, 1940
Harold West, linoleum cut, 1940.
Santa Fe artist Hal West received early advice on printmaking from Gustave Baumann, and this card displays some of the lessons he learned. The winter scene is carved on a separate block than that of the poem, which may indicate that West also offered the image as a stand-alone print. Despite the artist’s cheerful wishes, by Christmas of 1941 the world had been turned upside down.
