The New Mexico Historic Preservation Division (NMHPD) invites you to celebrate the nation’s oldest state-level historic tax credit program here in the Land of Enchantment: the NM State Income Tax Credit for Preservation of Cultural Property. As it nears its 40th birthday, here are a few details you might not know about this groundbreaking program.
Rutendo Musharu, a senior at United World College-USA High School in Montezuma, was named the 2023 New Mexico Poetry Out Loud champion. Robin Blakeman, a sophomore at the Public Academy for the Performing Arts, Albuquerque, was also named as the 2023 runner up. In May, Musharu will represent New Mexico in the Poetry Out Loud: National Recitation Contest in Washington, D.C.

The National Hispanic Cultural Center (NHCC) is thrilled to welcome Zack Quintero as its new Interim Executive Director. Quintero, a proud New Mexican with deep ties to the state’s Hispanic communities, will work closely with NHCC Artistic Director Noël Bella Merriam and Deputy Director Alberto Cuessy in order to continue effectively delivering high–impact programs and services to the public.

New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science (NMMNHS) is proud to welcome the premier celebration of microscopic photography, as Nikon Small World will be open at the Museum from Friday, March 24 through Sunday, April 30, 2023.
Museum of International Folk Art (MOIFA) presents the 12th annual Folk Art Flea Saturday, May 6 at the Santa Fe County Fairgrounds. Admission to the event is free, and sales benefit the educational programs and exhibitions of MOFIA. Although admission is free, members of Friends of Folk Art (FOFA) enjoy early-bird admission to the Flea from 9-10 a.m. Public admission is from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Combining street photography with the tenets of modernism, photographer Manuel Carrillo (1906-1989) portrayed his native Mexico from the perspective of an affectionate observer, transforming ordinary moments into expressions of quiet eloquence. Manuel Carrillo: Mexican Modernist is on view April 15 at New Mexico Museum of Art. Curated by Katherine Ware, curator of photography at NMMOA, this exhibition highlights 19 of his works, drawn primarily from the NMMOA collection.
The New Mexico Museum of Art (NMMOA) is pleased to announce that it has named Christian Waguespack as its new Head of Curatorial Affairs. Waguespack has served as Curator of 20th Century Art at NMMOA since 2017, where he has organized over twenty exhibitions and has lectured widely on various aspects of New Mexican art history across the country.

The National Hispanic Cultural Center (NHCC) is excited to announce that Emily Hanawalt has become Head Registrar for the Center’s Visual Arts Museum. Emily’s time at the Center began late last year.
