Pecos Riverwalk Trail and Audio Tour Launch

date_range May 13, 2023
location_on 3647 Billy the Kid Drive
Fort Sumner, NM 88119 United States
schedule 10:00 am - 11:30 am

We invite community members to celebrate the new and improved Pecos Riverwalk Trail and audio tour! The Riverwalk Trail has been made possible in part through our collaboration with the Fort Sumer High School Art Department. We matched eight honors students each with one of our cedar benches, and they painted different plants that were important to survival for the Indigenous people interred at the Bosque Redondo Indian Reservation. Through this trail you can learn about how nature influenced the history of this important place, and you will get to see and imagine the trees and plants that were considered gifts of beauty and survival from the Creator for the Diné (Navajo) and the Ndé (Mescalero Apache). Enjoy each bench painted by young Fort Sumner artists and learn about the incredible history and use of each plant, many of which are still found in this area.

We hope you will join us on this momentous day to dedicate each bench and hear a new chapter of history.
