Suspension of Belief: Why I Don’t Believe Mesa Verde became Tewa Brown Bag Talk

date_range August 8, 2017
location_on 7 Old Cochiti Road (off 599)
Santa Fe, NM 87507 United States
schedule -

Dr. Eric Blinman will present a lecture on his theory countering the current idea that the modern Tewa-speaking people migrated, en masse, from the Mesa Verde region of Colorado.

Eric states:

Archaeology proceeds by the proposal and then testing of ideas. The most influential idea of the past decade has been the model formulated by Dr. Scott Ortman that “Tewa origins lay in a massive migration from the Mesa Verde region.” From inception of this model through today, OAS archaeologists have been a skeptical minority within the discipline. This talk outlines the basis for our disbelief.

The Brown Bag talks will take place at the Center for New Mexico Archaeology at 12:00 noon in the CNMA library. Seating is limited. Admission is free.

The Center for New Mexico Archaeology (7 Old Cochiti Road) is located off of Caja del Rio Road, across from Challenge New Mexico on the way to the Santa Fe Municipal Golf Course. Take 599 to South Meadows Road, continue through the traffic circle west along the Frontage Road to Caja del Rio Road. CNMA is on the left-hand side of the road and is the large building with white sail-like skylights on the roof.
