Joe Sando was born in 1923 at Jemez Pueblo. He taught Pueblo Indian History at the University of New Mexico, the Institute of American Indian Arts, and U.S. International University. He is the former director of the Institute Pueblo Study and Research at the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center, as well having served on numerous important commissions and councils for the Native community. He is the author of several other books well known books including ‘Pueblo Nations: Eight Centuries of Pueblo Indian History’ and ‘Pueblo Profiles: Cultural Identity through Century of Change’.
