Gran Mary’s Place A StoryTelling Program

Our Story teller is children’s book author and Storyteller Emmett “Shkeme” Garcia. He is from the Pueblos of Tamaya (Santa Ana) and Walatowa (Jemez) in New Mexico. His diverse talents include Traditional Pueblo Singer and Dancer, lead singer of the award-winning Native American Reggae Band ’Native Roots’ and Cultural Educator. In 2006 the University of New Mexico Press published Shkeme’s first children’s book “Coyote and the Sky.” His second book, “Sister Rabbit’s Tricks,” was released December 20, 2012. Currently Shkeme is working on his 4th Native Roots CD.
