This year, the Bosque Redondo Memorial will have much more to see than in past Old Fort Days.
There will be something to interest almost everyone, with many activities taking place throughout the day on both Friday and Saturday.
Starting off both days will be sessions by Stanley Kedelty, a Navajo horse trainer , will be working with a couple of horses that have issues. Stanley will get started at 8:30 both days, admission is free and the sessions will be held north of the Memorial building, just west of the new sheep corral.
At 10:00 AM, a group of young Mescalero will be dancing on the grass under the trees in front of the building. After the dancers, at 11:00 AM, the Mescalero people will dedicate a Memorial remembering those who stayed behind as their people escaped from the Reservation in November of 1865.
On Saturday the 8th at 1:00PM, the Navajo Dinetah Dancers will perform in the Resource Room at the Memorial Building. Enjoy watching them in air conditioned comfort this year.
Aside from the scheduled events held this year, there will also be: food and craft vendors, a chuck wagon living history exhibit, an archaeology display, as well as archery and atl-atl demonstrations.
The Churro sheep will be in their new corral, there will be Native American flute music and the Van of Enchantment will be on hand.
All events and the Museum will offer free admission, so come down to see what’s going on at The Old Fort!!!
