Museum of Indian Arts & Culture presents “Horizons: Weaving Between the Lines with Diné Textiles”

The horizon line is both a point of connection between sky and earth and a separation of space. Horizons: Weaving Between the Lines with Diné Textiles at Museum of Indian Arts & Culture (MIAC) explores the connections between weaving and photography as modes of engagement with place. By situating these two media in conversation, this exhibition presents each as a way of seeing and knowing Dinétah, the Navajo homeland, emphasizing the land-based and relational practices of Diné (Navajo) weaving. Horizons is on view July 16, 2023, through June 2, 2024.

Parkas are unique garments which embody the creativity, craftsmanship, and innovation of their makers. The latest exhibition from Museum of International Folk Art explores the art of the parka, a garment made for survival in the harsh environments where Alaska Native peoples live and thrive. The Museum of Indian Arts and Culture (MIAC) is pleased to announce the 2023 Living Treasure award exhibition, Down Home: Anthony Lovato (Kewa/Santo Domingo Pueblo) will open on May 7. Lovato is a master jeweler known for his tufa-cast technique and signature design elements.

New Mexico Arts announces DezBaa’ and David Henderson as artists-in-residence at the Bosque Redondo Memorial at Fort Sumner Historic Site

New Mexico Arts and New Mexico Historic Sites announce DezBaa’ and her father David Henderson for the first artist residency at the Bosque Redondo Memorial at Fort Sumner Historic Site. Their residency runs until May 6, and at its conclusion, they will premiere a documentary featuring David’s journey of self-discovery, as well as a series of interviews with Memorial staff, historians, medicine people, and more.

Poetry Out Loud state champion will represent New Mexico in Washington, D.C.

Rutendo Musharu, a senior at United World College-USA High School in Montezuma, was named the 2023 New Mexico Poetry Out Loud champion. Robin Blakeman, a sophomore at the Public Academy for the Performing Arts, Albuquerque, was also named as the 2023 runner up. In May, Musharu will represent New Mexico in the Poetry Out Loud: National Recitation Contest in Washington, D.C.
